A couple new kids

I got this little cabinet last week and was inspired by the one kings lane. I had it just painted green and distressed. Then I decided to do more. I hope it goes over well. It seems my embellished pieces go fairly fast, so maybe this girl too. Also a shot of some new pillows. Lolly

Morning Inspiration

These pictures are so great. The softness of the rooms is very appealing, especially in a hectic world. I have some new pictures of my work and the shop so stay tuned maybe tonight or tomorrow. Lolly

Finally Pictures

Here she is. I had to wait on zippers, tack strip, etc. But she has been finished for a week. Just waiting to go to the shop. We sold the Moose, I call her, the leather tufted sofa in the shop (pictures against the back wall in previous posts). So next week the proud owner will claim her and this baby will go and await her new proud parents. When I get her in the shop she will be decked out with pillows and such. And I see I still have to paint the top back black. She is not perfect I am still a beginner but she is real good. She will look much better once she is home with her jewelry. Stay tuned   Lolly

PS I always seem to have cans of paint and half finished projects around. haha

Wildchairy

I have been following a chair artist named Andrea Mihalik. She owns a chair redesign business called wildchairy. She is a young woman with 3 children that buys a remakes old antique and vintage chairs. She is so talented she tears all her chairs down to wood, then repaints and reties the springs 8 way hand tied. She also uses the traditional horsehair. Her fabric choices are spectacular she works alone and does everything herself. She is new to the business only two years. I think it would be rewarding to check out her website. wildchairy.com  Thanks Lolly

Do you remember?

This was a sofa I showed you a few weeks ago that was in the works. Well it sat outside (under shelter of course) waiting for me to get up enough nerve to get going. I had as inspiration part Staceage and part Squint. I felt I needed to be a bit conservative, because of course, where I am. Well when I decided to tackle her it took one day to get the body recovered. That was after two days of teardown. I am waiting for a zipper for the cushion. This last sofa my dream sofa was my inspiration for the cushion. I spent two hours last night patch working (after 8 hours of painting kitchen cabinets for a client).  After all that I remember I forgot to order the zipper. So you have to wait till Monday to see the final with cushion. Oh and I got a little scared and repainted the frame black again.
That first picture of my studio looks terrible it is now clean and organized. Soon I will post pictures of that. I am having a new building built on my property to recover in. I am excited for that. Hope you enjoy these projects Lolly

Pink and a little blue

use to have a sofa like this. If I still did it would be painted white
These photos are from some of my most favorite blogs.A Delightful Design being one.

Sold

OK I officially do not know how to operate this blog. I had this dialog between my pictures and the inspiration photos and now they are down here and I can't move them. Anyway the two pictures at the top sold this week, and two tutu's sold. This was the week for paintings.Yeah. This table also sold. I'll do more also sold two other small hand painted tables. It was a great week and I hope thru the summer it gets better. Things seem to sell in waves. One week sofas are big, this week it was paintings. What's up for next week I don't know we shall see. These last four pictures are just breath taking. Lolly

Catching up

Just wanted to talk for a few minutes about owning a small business like this in a small town. It can be both rewarding and frustrating. There is such a huge investment emotionally and financially. I think sometimes people don't realize what is involved, or maybe they forget. Because I am not consignment I bear all the financial burden. I do not want to be consignment because I want to control my inventory and the look of my shop. I really feel I am representing a style more than being a second hand furniture store. At the beginning I would entertain offers to a certain extent, but I no longer want to do that. In the past month I have not accepted any offers because my things are wonderfully priced already. I have so much time and effort in each piece that it is an injustice to sell  myself to cheap. I think that people think of you as a horse trader if you let them. I am not. I am not a thrift store either.  Most of my clientele are people my age or young ladies that work for the bank or the hospital or even hairdressers. They come in and love my work and never make me an offer, they pay what I am asking. And they appreciate their pieces. Why should I bargain with some and not others. It seems disloyal to my main customer base. Then there are those that come in regular that never buy, but want to come sell me all there old furniture at premium price. Not that I don't think their things are great it is just not possible to pay what they want, revamp and resell and make money. I also want to bring in things from other areas, My clients can get what is available locally themselves, why would I buy it and raise the price and sell.It does not seem logical. One of my niches is that all my pieces are from other areas. I just don't buy local. When I back down and do buy from someone here to help them out it always hurts me financially. So what do you think?

Next bird chair

Just wanted to take everyone through a chair. This was a chair that was picked from my stash by a lady that wanted two bird chairs she wanted the one in the shop and one to match as closely as possible in style and of course the crazy owl fabric. This was her pick.  The first picture is what it looked like before. Of course she had to be sanded and painted white like chair number one. So we have the beginning, mid process then the finale in the shop. Her name is Lily. Once completed the lady decided 199.00 per chair was to much. She and her husband felt 150.00 was more appropriate. I of course could not sell them for 150.00. 199.00 was a steal for antique one of a kind chairs. Custom upholstery is very difficult and expensive. If I paid Fannin upholstery to do these chairs (the are the greatest) they would have been 250.00 per chair no fabric included and no custom painting. These two items would have sent this chair way over the 400.00 mark. Happily the very next day chair number one with blue velvet seat sold (her name was Patrice) to a regular customer Shandy. She gladly paid the 199.00 and felt it was well worth it.She makes my effort worth while. Sorry I did not have more process pictures. Several things in the works for now. Lolly

By the way this chair is so my style. Getting ready to look up the company prickly chairs for more chair ideas.  Happy hooshing.
